  • Theophrastus (father of Botany, 371 - 287 BC) was the first to mention the occurrence of cedar in Cyprus.
  • Cedrus brevifolia is one of the four cedar species in the world.
  • Cedrus brevifolia is classified as a Vulnerable species in the IUCN Red List and the Red Data Book of the Flora of Cyprus.
  • The habitat type that Cedrus brevifolia shapes is defined by the European Habitat Directive as "9590* Cedrus brevifolia forests (Cedrosetum brevifoliae)" and is included in the Annex I of the Directive, where it is characterised as priority habitat.
  • The habitat type 9590* (Cedrus brevifolia) is an endemic habitat of Cyprus, occurring only in Cyprus and nowhere else in the world.
  • The habitat "9590* Cedrus brevifolia forests (Cedrosetum brevifoliae)" occurs only in Pafos Forest, in an area of 290 ha (2.9 Km2), constituting less than 0.2% of the high forest vegetation in Cyprus.


The Site Κoilada Kedron - Kampos
Did you know that:
  • The site "Koilada Kedron - Kampos" is one of the approximately 27.400 sites of Natura 2000 network currently existing in the European Union.
  • Natura 2000 is the largest network of protected areas in the world, stretching 18 % of the European Union's land area and almost 6 % of its marine territory.
  • The E4 European long distance path (or E4 path), which starts from Gibraltar, crosses nine EU countries and ends in Cyprus, also crosses the site "Koilada Kedron - Kampos".
  • The site "Koilada Kedron - Kampos" is the only site in the world where visitors can observe unique natural elements endemic to Cyprus, such as the plant species: *Arabis kennedyae, Erysimum kykkoticum, Ranunculus kykkoensis, Arabis cypria, the endemic animals: Ovis orientalis ophion, Otus scops cyprius, Periparus ater cypriotes, Phoenicolacerta troodica, Hemiechinus auritus dorotheae and Garrulus glandarius glaszneri, as well as the endemic habitat types 9590* Cedrus brevifolia forests and 9390* Scrub and low forest vegetation of Quercus alnifolia.
